Anthony DeCosta. Analytical topic

My topic is on the admissions process of colleges and their tendency to accept students for reasons other than only their academic grades and test scores. These reasons are often factors that are not influenced by the student and although they can be obstacles in their lives, they still give a benefit that others do not have. Part of this includes affirmative action, athletics, disadvantaged students, and children of alumni or benefactors. All of these types of student have an advantage that the average student doesn't, and it is not influenced by their academic effort of performance. In my opinion, the average middle-class student who is good in the classroom often has his application pushed aside in favor of others because he is white and raised in a good environment, while many of his competitors are getting a generous favor just because of their situation.
