Scene One: The Intro

Present Day, Marcus, Severe Haircut Lady, and two guards sit at a table in a windowless, dirty room. One single lamp hangs from the ceiling.

SEVERE HAIRCUT LADY
“Give us the code God Damnit! We are the DHS, we will get it from you, one way or the other.”

MARCUS
“I don’t think so! Never shall I give the code to you! You are all evil!

SHL
“I will not be talked to like this! You give me what I want or I’ll get one of these guards to get it from you.”

MARCUS
“I just want to leave.”

An awkward look overcomes SHL’s face, she looks as though she’s thinking of the past. She looks as though she’s heard a voice she hasn’t heard in years. She looks startled, then almost happy.

Flashback to 1995, a man and a beautiful woman sit at a table in a very nice house. They are arguing intensely.

MAN
“you can’t keep doing this to us! With you work always comes first! When are you going to start caring about this family?!”

WOMAN
“I do care about this family! You just don’t understand what I have to go through with work! This is unbelievable, without me, this family is nothing! How would you pay for this house? Your Car?”

MAN
“Unbelievable Sarah, just unbelievable. I’m leaving you and I’m taking Angela with me. I just want to leave.”

WOMAN
“You won’t Jerrod! you’re too weak, you’d never leave me and you know it. Good luck!”

Scene Two: The Realization

It’s the day after Marcus had his talk with SHL, he is brought back to the interrogation room. This time, the guards are told to leave the room and SHL pulls out her listening device and turns it off .

SHL
“Hello Jerrod, how are you feeling today? Sorry about yesterday, I just have a lot of pressure on me lately with the bombings. But you don’t need to worry about that. You have bigger things to worry about.”

Marcus looks puzzled and cannot muster a reply to what she’s just said to him. He figures it is a tactic to get him to talk and give her the codes.

SHL
“Very talkative as usual I see, huh Jerrod? Don’t worry, all you need to do is escape this place!”

MARCUS
“I have no clue what you’re talking about.”

SHL
“Oh Jerrod! It’s so good to see you again! I’ve changed! I really have, I know that this place is evil and I’m planning on breaking you out just to prove it to you.”

MARCUS
“What do you mean? This is all crazy.”

SHL
“Oh don’t you worry about that, I’ll take care of it all

Flashback to a day after the big argument. Sarah walks into the empty kitchen with a note in her hand. She is crying profusely and can barely speak. She sits down and reads what the note says:

SARAH
“Dear Sarah, you have caused a break in this family. You’re work has taken over your life and I can’t do it anymore. I wish you still loved me. I’ve taken Angela with me, don’t worry, we’ll be fine.”

She continues to cry and runs into the bathroom. She grabs scissors and cuts her hair, leaving a severe set of bangs. Audience realizes that she is Severe Haircut Lady. Scene Cut

Scene 3: The Revitalization

Marcus sits in his cell, just having visited SHL for the second time. He thinks about how sincere the woman was and whether or not it was a trick. He falls into a deep sleep and is awakened by SHL.

SHL
“Hello Jerrod, please just listen. I don’t have much time.”

MARCUS
“Wha, what? What’s going on?”

SHL
“Just listen Jerrod, it’s Sarah! I’m going to tell you exactly how to escape. Tomorrow night at 1 AM I am going to relieve the guards in the wing of duty. Your door will open and you will have a clear path to the front door. You will need to go quickly so as not to be seen by other guards. You will exit the front door and run to the large boulder sitting on the beach. There you will wait for me. I will come and we can get onto the boat to escape. I have to go now, but remember, at 1 you must escape. Be safe my dear.”

MARCUS
(thinking it’s a dream)
“Uh, okay sounds good, goodnight.”

Flashback to Sarah, this time it is 5 years after her break-up with her husband. She is in an apartment now, sitting at the kitchen table, holding a picture of a 10 year old girl in her hand. She flips the card over to read:
SARAH
“We’ve really made a beautiful little girl didn’t we”

She sits down suddenly and begins to weep uncontrollably, the lights dim and the scene cuts.

Scene 4: The Escape

The night after Sarah comes into Marcus’ cell, he sits in the darkness still questioning whether or not she is sincere. Suddenly the cell door swings open.

MARCUS
“huh, well its better than sitting in here.”

Marcus walks to the door, revealing that there are no guards either direction. He walks out and decides to follow Sarah’s directions. He does exactly as she says and gets to the boulder, where he is surprised to find Van waiting for him.

VAN
“It’s about time! Sheesh c’mon let’s go we have no time!”

MARCUS
(realizing that Sarah isn’t around)
“Where’s Sarah? Isn’t she supposed to meet us?”

VAN
“Who the heck is Sarah?”

MARCUS
“The woman that was interrogating us! She - Her name is Sarah.”

VAN
“Oh, she got shot and a guard was able to grab her while she was running out, I barely escaped myself. But hey we gotta go! Let’s run to the boat on three. Three, two, one, go!”

They run to the boat, Van starts it and is able to take off, she turns her head and sees noone is following them. They speed off into the darkness.

Flashback to Sarah sitting in a fancy home office with a fireplace roaring in the background. Books line the shelves and she sits in a chair opposite an man in a large desk chair facing away from her. An expensive office desk separates them.

MAN
“look Sarah, we all know what you’ve been through, with Jerrod and all. But you need to focus on the task that’s at hand.”

SARAH
“Yes I know, in order for you to be president you just need me to be head of DHS.”

MAN
“Exactly, and you’re going to do that aren’t you Sarah?”

SARAH
“Yes, Father.”

Scene 5: The Aftermath

It is the day after the escape, Marcus awakes in his own bed next to Van, who is already up and staring at him intensely. Marcus is disoriented and when he remembers last night he thinks it was just a dream.

MARCUS
“Woah Van, where are we?”

VAN
“We’re at your house stupid!”

MARCUS
“La, last night was real?”

VAN
“Well of course dummy, how else would we get here?!”

MARCUS
“Wow, then Sarah actually died for us then.”

VAN
“Well, yeah. You don’t remember do you? You passed out as soon as we got onto the boat. It was a real bitch getting you up into bed last night.”

MARCUS
“Wow, I-I wish I coulda said goodbye.”

Cuts to months after the invasion, and after Marcus has met Ange. Scene shows Ange and Marcus sitting on Ange’s couch at home. Her dad walks into the room and introduces himself to Marcus.

ANGE’S FATHER
“Hello I’m Jerrod, Angela’s father, its great to finally meet you Marcus.

Scene Cuts with audience realizing that Ange is Sarah’s daughter.

Ryan's outline

Scene 1

Four people are in a dark, dirty room, a single lamp hangs from the ceiling, barely illuminating the room. SHL yells at marcus, demanding the code to his phone. He constantly denies her, after a while he says “I just want to leave.” A scared yet happy look comes about SVL’s face.

Flashback to a house in downtown SF, looks to be mid 90’s by cars on street. A man and beautiful woman sit at a table, arguing about something. The man accuses her of taking work too seriously and not caring about him enough. She says she cares just enough and yells at him that he has no clue what she is going through. He looks sad. He says “fine Jessica, I’m taking Angela, I just want to leave.” A small girl, about 5, stands in the doorway, crying. Scene Cuts

Scene 2

Next day, marcus goes back to the interrogation room, this time, things are different this time. SHL smiles at marcus and tells the two guards to leave the room. SHL takes out the recording vice and turns it off. She says calls him by a different name and proceeds to act like they’ve known each other for years. She begins to tell him that he needs to escape. She acts like he’s her husband, she tells him it’s okay and that she’s learned that the job has taken over her life, she hates the job and the DHS.

Flashback to the same house as earlier, this time a day later. A beautiful woman is crying as she walks into her kitchen. A note is in her hand. The note explains how her husband has left and he took their daughter with him. The woman looks devastated. She runs to the bathroom and cuts off her bangs, leaving just a blade of hair severely sweeping across her face.

Scene 3

Marcus is in his cell, just having visited SHL. He thinks about whether or not it was a trick. He falls into a deep sleep, only to be awakened 3 hours later in the middle of the night by SHL. This time she plans to tell him how to escape. She goes into great detail about the escape and how she will help. He still isn’t sure whether or not to believe her.

Flashback to the beautiful woman, she is about 5 years older, and holding the mail at the kitchen table. She sees a letter from an unknown person. She opens it to see a picture of a girl, about 10 years old standing in a flower patch, smiling. On the back it reads “we really made something beautiful” she begins to cry and falls down onto the floor.

Scene 4

Marcus awakes suddenly in the middle of the night. He sees that his cell door is open, and all the guards from his hall are gone. He follows the halls until he gets to the courtyard door, facing the ocean. He looks around then sprints to a boulder sitting on the beach. There he is astonished to see his friends, all sitting waiting. He is informed that SHL had helped them escape, but she was shot in the process. The guards grabbed her and took her with them. There is a small boat sitting on the shore, they all get into it and drive off into the darkness.

Flashback to the beautiful woman sitting in an expensive-looking home office. A fireplace roars in the background. She looks at a large desk chair facing away from her. A deep voice says that he knows what she’s going through but her priority is to her country, not her family. She acknowledges and agrees not to get the two intertwined. The voice says good, now you can go. To which she says “yes father”

Scene 5

Marcus wakes up in his own bed, next to his friends. They inform him that he blacked out during the escape and that they were able to get him home safely. He sits up and thinks to himself about what the woman had done for him. He realizes that she is probably dead by now. A feeling of guilt overcomes him as his friends celebrate on escaping from the DHS.

Scene flashes to Ange sitting on a couch watching tv. She looks up as a man enters the room. The man is the same man that was married to the beautiful woman from before. Scene fades and mysterious music plays.

What I Got so far

Ed and Roy are brothers. Roy is the older of the two. They live in the same apartment.

[Opening]

Ed: (Narrator Voice) We were brothers, we could do anything together... and yet we were so different... [Undeveloped/Unfinished]

Screen is black, rain is pouring (you can hear it). Ed is thinking to himself

Ed: I’ve had enough of her bullshit... !

Screen is still black, Ed and Roy are breathing heavily(like panting).

[Location: in a park within eyesight of their work place. It’s a multistory/skyscraper like building]

Now in Ed’s perspective (looking through his eyes), looking at the detonator in his hand [right hand], shivering. Ed looks up and sees Roy holding himself (arms wrapped himself because he’s cold), shivering, staring with a strong gaze into his eyes.

Roy: Let’s get this over with already, we don’t want this thing going off while people are around.

Ed, hesitant, attempts to activate the detonator. But before Ed can activate use the detonator his left hand grabs his right and squeezes it tightly (his conscience is overwhelmed with guilt even though he knew no one was going to die, it would still adversely affect their lives).

Ed: I...I can’t do this

Ed falls to his knees

Roy pushes Ed to the ground and tears the detonator from Ed’s hands

Roy: You dumbass! You wanted to do this, this was your plan.... fuck, and now you’re having second thoughts.

Roy: (sigh) I guess that’s why I’m here. I could always do the things you couldn’t!

Rain starts to clear.

Roy, staring at the detonator, with confidence, activates the detonator.

Nothing happens, they look around then look at each other.

Ed: What’s going on? Wasn’t it supposed to go off?

Roy: It was.... what the hell happened!?

Roy smiling/grinning at Ed

Roy: I guess all this for nothing... looks like someone doesn’t want us blowing up buildings. I guess we can sleep better at least.

Ed: (frantic) Wait, wait, wait! What are we going to do with the bombs? What if someone finds them?

Roy helps Ed off the ground, he places his hand on Ed’s shoulder

Roy: We’ll remove them next week. Let’s just cool down for now. I don’t want any crazy ideas going through my head again.

Ed: Alright...

Ed shaking his head

Ed: Fuck, I can’t believe I was just about to blow up my boss’s building.

Roy: Let’s just make sure not to do this again...

Ed and Roy start walking home and scene fades out.

[Apartment - Explosion]

A huge explosion rattles the entire neighborhood.

Ed is standing behind Roy, watching him playing a game. He’s eating cereal. When Ed hears the explosion, he’s shocked and drops his bowl of cereal.

The sounds of sirens race by.

Roy tenses up and stares at the computer screen. After a few seconds, he explodes, gets out of his chair in rage, and grabs Ed by shirt [with both hands].

Roy: DAMNITTTTTT!!! [Roars this]

Roy regains composure and lets Ed go. He walks to the nearby sofa and falls down into it, covering his head with a pillow.

Ed has a sudden realization.

Ed: If the bombs went off just now.... IT’S TEN IN THE MORNING....

Roy sits up and throws the pillow at the TV. He covers his face with his hands [maybe like Picard facepalm].

Roy: Yeah, we just killed thousands of people.

Ed goes to pick up the remote and turn on the TV. He flips through the channels. The bomb explosion is being covered by the local/nation wide news networks.

Ed is shocked. He falls down onto the sofa. [In his perspective] Ed reaches out to Roy trying to comfort him. Roy pushes him away.

The scene fades out.

[2 Weeks Later]

Screen is black. A reporter is heard on the TV. She reports that the attack two weeks ago killed thousands. Goes on to say the Department of Homeland Security has decided to ramp up security in the city.

Scene fades in on the TV

Rerporter: ...the suspects of this terrorist attack have yet to be found. Reports say...

Scene turns to see Ed and Roy laying on the sofa hungover form drinking and depressed. The reporter is somewhat muted in the background

Ed: I... I can’t do this anymore, I need to tell someone.

Roy: (angry) It’s been two weeks now and they haven’t found any suspects, don’t do anything stupid!

Reporter: ...starting this week the Department of Homeland Security has begun setting up surveillance monitors [not sure what to say yet] blah blah blah

Ed: (worried) You see that! Look at what they’re doing, look at what they’re doing because of us!

Roy throws a pillow/cushion at Ed

Roy: (annoyed) Calm down! (takes a deep breath) I’ve had enough of this, you’re giving me a headache.

Roy walks off to his room. He falls onto his bed angry and scared.

Thinking to himself.

Roy: No one’s going to suspect us, and yet that dumbass keeps saying he needs to tell someone. Why is he so goddamn weak!. (sigh) Whatever...

Roy falls asleep

[Decision]

Ed: (Narrator Voice) Things changed between us that day... I lost a brother... Roy lost (undeveloped/needs work)

Roy decides the best way to hide from his crime and atone for his sins is to work for the DHS and help protect people. He joins the DHS.

[Three years later]

The DHS has changed everyday life. Roy has assumed a high ranking position in DHS (doesn’t seem realistic, but whatever). Security has become the prime directive driving the DHS. Privacy has been erased... Trust is lost.

Confrontation between Ed and Roy.

Things happen.

Line/Theme :If the government wants it’s people to trust them, then they have to trust the people.

Roy turns reveals he was responsible for the attack 3 years ago. DHS falls apart with further insider secrets.

Roy and Ed are brothers again/ trust each again. Other things are said as well...a

JASON GIEDT

Set up.

ANCHOR WOMAN: Good morning Bay Area. What a beautiful Monday morning. There are a few wisps of clouds in the sky with mild temperatures. Looks like it’s going to be a pretty good day.

Odis Wakes up and sits up in bed. Jordan lay still asleep next to him. Enter Jarred. Runs into the room and jumps into the bed and wakes up Jordan.

ANCHOR MAN: Our top story today: there has been an Increase in identity theft and what you can do to avoid it.

Odis gives Jordan a kiss and pats Jarred on the head (/what ever affection gestures can be achieved) and leaves out the door. See the city Car drives into the city.

ANCHOR WOMAN: Now lets take a look at todays weather report brought to you by Cisco communications. Bill.

WEATHER MAN: Thanks Jill. Well is looks like it going to be a mild day. Highs in the low seventies and lows in the upper sixties. Some clouds but for the mostly clear skies. Lets take a look at the 7-day forecast. We have similar weather through out the week. We have some cloud cover around Thursday and the temperatures will dip to the low to mid sixties and then rise again by Sunday.

Look up at a building, annotation says “Law Offices of Dewy Chetem and Howe” Inside the office Jarred enters into his office camera settles on his name plate “Odis Rex ENTER Partner.”

Scene 1 : Bay Bridge

ELMO: Elmo says…

Interference tone Booooop.

ANCHOR WOMAN: Breaking news. You are looking at live footage of the Bay Bridge. Minutes ago, reports say that the Bay Bridge exploded. We are relaying information as we receive it.

ANCHOR MAN: My God. Okay. We are now hearing that the Attack… Wasn’t limited to the bridge… but that the tunnel was also blown.

We now have with us a correspondent from the Department of Homeland Security to give us some insight into this tragic attack means for us.

DHS: Thank you Bill. Hello name is John. This attack has warranted that the Department of Homeland Security institute new measures of security, which will include more check points, and potentially an increase in the amount of cars that are pulled over by police. When you encounter a security measure, co-operate. It will make the whole process quicker and its your duty as an American to help project this great nation.

Scene 2

ANCHORMAN: A group of rebels has emerged and they are called the X-netters. Though instead of the traditional physical rebellions this group seems to operate almost entirely in cyberspace. John

DHS: Thank you Jill. The emergence of this rebel group of zealots has drawn the attention of the president who as granted the DHS a larger budget to increase the efforts of security and to weed out these x-netters. This will mean more delays and again we apologize for any inconvenience.

Scence 3

ANCHORWOMAN: Last the infamous x-netter made their first showing as the held an illegal and concert in the park that turned violent. Many were sent to the hospital having been trampled. John

DHS: When our teams were in place the riot had become loud and unruly and a danger to the public. We asked that the congregation disband but they refused We eventually forced to use non-lethal riot control methods but by then the damage had been done.

Scene 4

ANCHORMAN: earlier this morning the x-netters had another public event. What was estimated to be around 500 to 700 teenagers and young adults poured into the Civic Center dressed in dark and malicious garb. Again there were many people who suffered injuries of being trampled

DHS: When confronted by riot control teams the rabble faked being attacked and to our forces it looked as though a biological agent had been released. This is another example of the terrorism we need to root out her in the United States. Because not only did this affect the rioters and the control teams but also innocent civilians on their way to work were caught up in the riot.

Scene 5

ANCHORWOMAN: Disturbing but relieving news today. The Department of Homeland Security stationed in San Francisco has been booted out for conducting torture on our own citizens.

ANCHORMAN: That’s right the x-netters were never really a threat but rather a group of people who saw through the DHS. This means that our lives sould return to normal now with no more check point and no more pattern tracking there should be no more harassment.
