After looking at the manuscript for Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction, I realized that I wanted to capture some of the excellent dialogue elements in that movie. Although the film’s plot is simple in theory, the dialogue between its principal characters is what makes the movie so great. For those of you unfamiliar with the film, one of the most compelling scenes consists of a simple conversation over breakfast, wherein there is very little action and movement, but witty, vulgar, and debative dialogue. This concept is even further showcased in a production of the play Twelve Angry Men, where the entire film is shot in one, continuous take and all the “action” consists of rigorous debate. My idea for a remix/film is exactly that, a continuous shot of a group of characters, who may be partially based on Doctrow’s characters, engaged in a discussion on the merits of safety/security in opposition to privacy/individual liberties.
