Research Hypertext Proposal

For my research hypertext I will be researching the life and occupation of a gas station attendant. It is believed that these workers make somewhere around eight dollars an hour with their yearly wages almost never exceeding $20,000. These people stand for hours at a time, simply waiting for the next customer to come and bring their items to the counter in order to be cashed out. They are in charge of stocking the shelves and cleaning the often disgusting bathrooms that fill their small, and uncomfortable workplace. If they work at a "full-serve" station, they have to rush out to fill up customers' tanks while they sit in the car. Often times, this is done in the freezing cold of the winter or in the pouring rain in the middle of the night. In addition to the physical labor involved in being a gas station attendant, they must often times deal with the fear of being robbed and held at gunpoint if they are situated in a rough area. They could become hurt or even worse, killed, if a robbery of their workplace goes awry. I have a personal connection to gas station attendants because one of my friends back home worked at one this past summer as a part time job. While he was not working in a rough area, he still was working long hours with little pay.
