Scene 1
Its a misty grey day at Winston Churchill High school. (Birds eye shot of the school). The school flag is whipping in the wind then suddenly the wind changes directions. A whistle sound fills the courtyard. A cold front is blowing in, papers fly across the courtyard.
Close shot of Melinda (Mel) staring at the clock, and tapping her pen against her note book. Tick tick tick. The second hand hits the twelve in slow motion. There are 3 minutes left of 5th period. The class starts rustling around, packing up while Mr. Bigs continues his lecture on the importance of turning off the lights before you leave any room to conserve energy. He yells at the class and tells them that they are interrupting his lecture and that he doesn’t care if there are only 2.5 mins left of this period. Mr. Bigs favorite student Caitlin, the teacher’s pet of the whole highschool whose sitting in the front row turns around and glares at the rest of the class. She politely says in the most stuck up voice ever, I wasn’t packing up Mr. Bigs. Mr. Bigs smiles at her. Mel looks at her best friend Casey and makes an annoyed face. Casey makes her hand look like a gun and pretends to shoot herself.
The class continues to sit still, until the bell finally rings. The whole class covers there ears, in a routine fashion, because the bell is so loud and obnoxious.
Scene 2
Shot of the whole hallway filling up with students. Shot of Mel and Casey exiting their environmental science classroom. Mel and Casey walk together to their next class. They have the exact same schedule. They discuss the quiz they had in their past class, and talk about how it is so not fair how Mr. Bigs always picks the most random questions out of the reading and how none of the central main topics are included in the quiz. They walk outside, and to their surprise it is windy and rainy. Mel is pissed. She hates how Caitlin is the teacher’s pet, always sucks up to the teachers, and in turn always gets good grades just because she “sucks Mr. Big’s dick every day after class.” Casey is clearly annoyed with Caitlin too, but knows not to participate in the conversations or else Mel will never shut up about how much she hates Caitlin. “Ya ya, we’ve had this conversation a million times we all know Caitlin sucks every teachers dick, regarless if they have a dick or not, but who cares lets stop complaining talk about something else. “Fine,” Mel agrees.
As the two best friends walk to their 6th period video technology class they link arms because it is cold outside. Casey says she “can’t wait for the week to be over, and that she has had so much homework this week. 3 quizzes, 3 math assignments, and one group project is way too much for one week.” She says she “wishes something exciting would actually happen and the only thing that ever changes in this lame ass city is the weather.” Mel says “whose the one complaining now, at leaste you arn’t the captain of the dance team, and you don’t have dance practice everyday after school for two hours.” That reminders her, she has to perform at a football game tonight. She has a solo too. She tells Casey that it is “her duty as her best friend to be at the game.” Casey promises she’ll be there. They get to the classroom, sit down at a computer, and starts surfing the web.
Scene 3
Mel and Casey love their video technology class mostly because her teacher Mrs. Vasquez gives the students room for creative thought, and well.. also because Mrs. Vasquez also let the students leave at any time during the class to “film”. Mel walks up to Mrs. Vasquez’s desk and asks her if she and Casey can leave class early to “film.” Mrs. Vasquez says, “sure write a pass.” Mel writes a pass and the girls leave the room with their back pack and bags. Mel asks Casey to go with her to the dance room to drop off her bag and go get food. Casey agrees. They go to the dance room, drop off the bag. They see the band file in, along with Caitlin, as they leave. More dick sucking, except this time band nerds rather than teachers. They both give her a dirty look and exit the hall.
Scene 4
Jack, a trumpet player always followed Caitlin around like a little puppy and obsessed over her just like Caitlin obsessed over her teachers. Caitlin treated Jack like he annoyed her, but secretly she loved having someone love her. Jack says, “damn that Mel girl is such a Bitch. She always gives you those dirty looks, and treats you like shit.” Mel “ugh I know she just thinks shes SOOO HOTT just because she’s captain of the dance team. I hate her guts, she always puts me in the back row of our routines, and she always gets the solos because she gives them to herself!” Jack says “why don’t you do something to fuck with her. Get back at her, or something. You shouldn’t always be in the back row, especially with that ass! Caitlin punches jack “ EWWW seriously? Don’t ever talk about my ass in front of me. But besides that, you have a good point, I should get back at her for always treating me like shit… But how? Jack- You can start by looking in her bag, maybe steal some cloths from her or something. Caitlin searches her bag, finds her key chain and sees that there is pepperspray attached to it. She sprays the pepper spray in the hall while the band and dance team are getting ready for the game. The spray disperses, everyone coughs, and the band dierector comes out. Caitlin gets scared slides the keychain with the pepperspray to the corner of the room.
Scene 5
Mel returns to the dance/band hall with her food. She inhaled a biting scent and her lungs immediately rejected it with a non stop cough. She looked around to see that the other 150 kids in the band hall were violently coughing as well. The band director raised his voice, "Everyone needs to evacuate the building." In his hand he held a small red canister key chain. He raised it in the air and shouted, " If anyone has a clue to what this is and who it belongs to report to my office immediately" Her heart and stomach dropped out of her body leaving her feeling frightened inside. Someone had sprayed her pepper spray in the band hall.
She was scared to report to the office, yet she felt the duty to take the responsibility of claiming the pepper spray, and well. Her car keys were attatched so she had no choice but to report. She walked into the band director's office claiming the pepper spray, but refusing to admit she was the person responsible for spraying it. Her parents were called to the school, and upon their arrival there was a meeting as to why she had this "explosive weapon" on me. She told the AP she had the spray for protection, for when I walk to my car after dance practice, parked at the apartments next to my school.. The AP had no mercy to Mel’s explanation. She was not allowed to perform at the Charger football game that night, and was given a week of In School Suspension level two. Her parents were furious that she was given this unjust punishment. The AP had no incentive to change her mind. She had no choice but to serve my time, and if she refused , she would be expelled.
Scene 6
Casey is at football game. The dancers enter the field on half time. Mel is missing. Casey knows something is seriously wrong because Mel never misses a performance, especially when she has a solo. Casey drives to Mel’s house. Mel tells Casey what happened. They both decide is isn’t right. Casey and Mel discuss with Mel’s parents their course of action. They agree to allow Mel to not serve her time in ISS and to receive expulsion. Mel shouldn’t have to report to ISS when she didn’t spray it.
Scence 7
Next day in 6th period, Mr. Bigs brings up the subject of having weapons on campus. He lectures about the danger of weapons, and includes peppersray as a weapon. Casey raises her hand and makes a comment that it has NOTHING to do with what they are learning right now in environmental science, and that it is inappropriate to discuss. Mr. Bigs gives Casey detention for talking back. Caitlin giggles and gives Casey a dirty look. After class all the students go up to casey and ask her why she got so pissed at Mr. Bigs. Casey tells them what happened to Mel. All of the students get fired up. They are upset Mel got expelled. They plan to meet after school, and start a riot. Casey tells mrs Vasquez what happened and asks her to leade their protest the next morning. Mrs. Vasquez aggress. She knows Mel would never spray it.
Scene 8
Everyone makes posters that say “FREE MEL” Some people even made shirts. Casey gets a sound system and leads the protest in the courtyard. She gets everyone to chant with her Free Mel or Go to Hell! The media shows up, gets the story on tape, and interviews Casey. Mel shows up on campus, but campus security escort her off because she was expelled for having an explosive weapon on campus. The principle takes the mic from Casey, give her and everyone else at the riot 5 days of detention after school
Scence 9
The news puts together a story about the unjust punishment of Mel Riley. The city is furious. Winston Churchill gets 100 complaint phone calls the next day. Dance alumni call and say they are going to stop donating money to the school because they don’t think a girl in top 10% of her class who also is the Dance captain should be expelled for having pepperspray on her for protection, when she wasn’t even the one who sprayed it.
Scence 10
WC principle calls the media, tells them to make another story saying they are readmitting Mel Jenkins back to Churchill High. Justice is received. Caitlin gets reported by Jack.
