Golkar's Pitch

In our society, we closely guard our medical records. It is expressly illegal for another individual to utilize your DNA without your consent. To do so is a grave violation of privacy because your genetic pattern, the very thing that forms your being, is being stolen or misused. My story will follow the exploits of Marcus and his friends in an entirely different universe. He belongs to a dystopian society that collects the DNA of every citizen as a means of maintaining control of the general populace. DNA is also used to determine racial “classifications” and various minority groups, namely Middle Easterners and Black Americans, are discriminated against and segregated. The government has closed the borders of the country and has forced its citizens into a state of submission through forceful coercion and propaganda. They have also forced the people into a state of fear by creating rumors of impending terrorist plots and nuclear war. The government uses the DNA to track its citizen, monitor their biological functions, and calculate the risk they pose to the establishment based on various genetic patterns that determine behavior. They also sterilize people who possess genes that present a risk to the societal gene pool through defects. Furthermore, the government also utilizes DNA for various forms of research, such as cloning, without the permission of the populace. Marcus and his friends will endeavor to fight against these oppressive measures by sabotaging government DNA systems and encouraging people to resist government efforts. By disrupting the governmental DNA systems, Marcus will shake the very foundations of his society and teach the masses that resistance is indeed possible. He will be hunted by authorities, betrayed, and imprisoned but he will maintain his resistance movement and inspire the masses.
